Keeping Your Diet at a Party

So, you’re rolling along on your diet and exercise program when you notice something on your calendar and panic sets in. A party! Hey, parties are supposed to be fun and just because you are on a diet, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself, just be smart about it.

First, never go to a party or a dinner hungry have a small meal or snack before you go, be sure to include some protein to fill you up a little more. Drink lots of water once you get there and try to alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.

Then, load up your plate with all the lean protein and vegetables that you can find. Skip the fillers like rolls, chips and cheese and crackers and be sure to save room for a treat. Don’t deprive yourself, that will probably just lead to overeating when you get home later.

Be sure to get moving the day before or the day after the party. Go for a longer walk than usual or stay longer on the cardio machine at the gym, but this doesn’t mean you can eat more.

Finally, if you socialize a lot, be sure to make trade offs. Have wine one night, dessert the next, don’t have an all or nothing mentality. You can be social and stay in control. Be proud of your great choices and have a great time.
