Eating Out while on a Diet

eating out while on a diet

Eating out can make it hard to stay disciplined on a diet

Most people love to eat out, but for many it can be a  real diet killer. So I’m here to teach you that it just requires a little bit of thought, and you can eat healthy and still eat out.  I’ve ordered all this delicious food to prove that point, so we’re going to go through everything here.

Good Salad Habits

The first thing I have is just a simple salad.  Healthy, right?  Yeah, sure it’s healthy until you add the dressing.  This is up to about 300 calories depending on the type of dressing. You have this every day and that’s a half a pound a week that you don’t lose or that you gain.  So get the dressing on the side and dip your fork in it with every bite and you’ll save almost 250 calories a day.

Take Some Home With You – Don’t Overstuff

Moving on, we’ve got the carpacho salmon.  This is a beautiful dish.  Salmon is super heart healthy, very high in omega 3 fatty acids.  This is too big of a portion for an appetizer.  My recommendation would be to either have this as your entree, which would be a super healthy entree, or split it in half, take the rest of it home, maybe for breakfast on a little piece of wheat toast or something like that.

Moving on to the entrees, we’ve got the chicken marsalla here.  Beautiful dish, and what I did here was I ordered double vegetables and skipped the potatoes.  The reason I did that is because I’m planning on having dessert later, so I wanted to save some of the calories that I would have from the starchy potatoes and apply them to my dessert.

Finally we have the fish dish, and this looks great to me.  This is in a tomato sauce, which is much lighter, not the cream sauce.  You want to stay away from that.  It’s a big serving but I’m not so concerned about it because fish is so low-fat that you don’t have to be quite as careful, and you’ll notice again that I ordered double vegetables and skipped the potato because I definitely want to save room and calories for dessert later.

So here we have a full range of options, so go ahead and eat out, just eat healthy and smart.
